The five-year-old survivor of a tragedy that claimed three lives during Christmas had a very special visitor on Thursday.

The visitor was the Police Commissioner, Fuiavailili Egon Keil, who wanted to see how the child was after he lost his mother and another sibling during the drowning incident. 

 “It was a tragic incident,” Fuiava said. 

The young boy, Eugene Perefoti Amerika, was admitted to the Pediatric ward but he has since recovered. 

 “We decided to go and visit him to see if he was fine,” said Fuiavailili. “What happened to this poor kid was very sad and no one would ever want to go through that.”

The Commissioner was accompanied by some police officers involved in the rescue operation. 

“These two police officers risked their lives and tried their best to save the lives of others… and I am also grateful to these gentlemen for doing their job to the best of their ability.”

Fuiava said he wanted to visit and put a smile on the boy’s face. He said he was delighted to see that he was doing fine.

“I mean we cannot change the fact that this kid will grow up without his mother and that is just very sad but we wanted to at least make him smile and make him happy,” he said.

The Police Commissioner also confirmed plans to honour the bravery of the Police officers who helped with the rescue. 

 “We need to acknowledge the great effort of these gentlemen for if it weren’t for them, this poor kid could’ve lost his life as well. And I am grateful for that.”
