An election suggestion

Re: Election comes with $1.7m price tag

Elections cannot be done on the cheap. Last year’s elections, as stated by Faimalo, involved 100 extra polling places. Those polling places do not staff themselves.

One thing I would suggest for the next election though is that instead of chartering the ferry, they should charter Samoa Air or Polynesian Airlines to fly the results in from Savaii.

There is an airstrip at Asau and Maota. If they fly the results into Fagalii, it would cut down a lot of time.

I remember the results from Savaii didn’t come in until around midnight because they were waiting for every single voting box from every single polling place on the entire island of Savaii before the ferry could leave (which then took another hour) before the slow journey to Mulinuu.
