Apia Maroons prevailed in a titanic struggle at the Apia Park yesterday to secure the title for the latest leg of S.I.F.A Sevens Series.

Apia played Moata’a in the Cup Final that saw both teams throw everything at each other.

The sides were evenly matched and neck and neck on the scoreboard throughout the match.

At full time, the score was 19-19.

The teams then went into sudden death and it seemed as if it was going to be another tight one.  It was then the Apia Maroon, Tuiai Tuiai, broke away down the sideline to score the winning try.

What made this a game spectacle was that both teams featured prominent sevens players on their roster such as Tila Mealoi and Francis Ieremia.

The tournament was especially significant for Ieremia because this was his first time back on the pitch following a nasty leg injury that left him unable to finish off his season last year.

Ieremia commented on his absence from the pitch and road to recovery.

“It was very frustrating, I was always angry to see the boys playing and I couldn’t.”

“I started doing stretching and all that with the physio and started running, but at the same time I was doing weights and off-feet conditioning.”

When asked about playing on the pitch for the first time in a long time, he stated, “I’m excited but I’m nervous as well because I don’t want to get injured again.”

Here are the results:

1st – Apia Maroon

2nd- Moata’a

3rd- Saleologa

4th- Matrist

Bowl – Satalo

Shield – Tufulele

Plate -Tepatasi
