Talents are God’s blessings to help others

Twenty-six-year-old Frances Fuimaono says everyone has different talents from God.

Those talents were given to bless others.

Originally from Luatuanu’u, he is staying at Matautu to be closer to work.

“I am a fisherman,” he told the Village Voice yesterday

He worked at a local hotel before he quit in search of a better job.

“I wasn’t making enough money from my other job,” he said.

But the life of a fisherman is a tough one.

“The hours are odd and it can take the whole weekend,” he said. “We are out there catching different creatures such as fish, octopus and others.”

Once he returns to shore, he takes his catch and sells them.

“I have good days and bad days,” he said.

“In the weekend I can collect up to $1,000 which is a lot of money. Some times, relatives give me orders and other times I have to provide seafood for family to take overseas.”

Frances comes from a family of 11 people. Four family members work which makes Frances job a little easier.

“It’s my own money but I know very well how to use it. I gave some to my parents for what is needed for the family but I save some to my bank account for my own personal stuff.”

Family faalavelave, church and village obligations are a must, he believes.

For the future, he said he is uncertain if he can be a fisherman forever.

But he is making the most of his talents for now.

And he has some good advice for young people.

“Use your talents wisely because your family depend on you.”
