Foreign qualification processes on agenda

17 March 2016, 12:00AM

The Samoa Qualifications Authority (S.Q.A) will be holding a Public Awareness Workshop on its Foreign Qualifications Service (F.Q.R.S) today.

The training will be at the Development Bank of Samoa (D.B.S) Conference Room.

The F.Q.R.S evaluates qualifications awarded by Post School Education and Training (P.S.E.T) institutions outside of Samoa’s national borders.

It verifies the authenticity of the qualification, its recognition status in the country of award and its comparable level on the Samoa Qualifications Framework (S.Q.F).

The F.Q.R.S is critical to developing economies like that of Samoa’s where there is growing demand for a more qualified workforce and as such it is a mandated function of the Authority under the S.Q.A Act 2010.

This service safeguards the public and private organizations from the risks of hiring individuals who hold fraud qualifications.

The F.Q.R.S also promotes fairness recruitment processes in organizations by verifying foreign qualifications from applicants.

The Public Awareness Workshop will be attended by all S.Q.A stakeholders including government ministries, State-Owned Enterprises (S.O.Es), P.S.E.T providers, Private Sector organizations and professional associations. The workshop will be facilitated by the S.Q.A and New Zealand Qualifications Authority (N.Z.Q.A) Recognition Services (Q.R.S) Manager, Cameron Sang.

This workshop creates an opportunity for all stakeholders to understand the value of the recognition of foreign qualifications processes, securing the authenticity of a foreign qualification, diploma mills and other important information regarding the F.Q.R.S.

Interested members of the public are also welcome to attend.
