The ‘Taxi – I am sport’ primary division netball tournament has come to an end but spirits were still high as the young ladies received their prizes.

Each team battled their hearts out throughout the weeks with Pesega Sweethearts, Samoa Primary, Oriana, R.L.S.S Rockets, Hyundai and United Souls making it to the finals which was held yesterday.

Trophies, Netball Bibs, Netball balls, and boxes of Taxi soft drinks were distributed to the winning schools.

Speaking to Sunday Samoan about the event was Ruta Schwalger from Netball Samoa.

“Today is the finals of our 8 week tournaments which involved different schools and clubs at the primary school level,” she said.

“Our aim is to encourage and develop our female athletes to come in and enjoy netball; we have had great support from our teachers and coaches as well as the girl’s parents.”

Ms. Schwalger also shared a word of thanks for all those who supported the tournament.

“We would like to thank all the dedicated parents who came ever Saturday morning to support the tournaments,” she said.

“I would also like to encourage the girls to come down and give it a go; there is an abundance of skills you can pick up here and a lot of fun along the way.”

During an earlier interview with Rosemarie Esera the Chief Executive Officer for Netball Samoa she saw so much improvement in the girl’s skills throughout the tournament.

“There has been huge development since we started this competition. We have noticed it especially in the girls who took part last year,” Ms. Esera said.

“They came back this year with their basic skills and their awareness of the game tremendously improved.

“I would like to thank Caroline and her team from Samoa Beverages for their sponsorship, without them we wouldn’t have these wonderful prizes.”
