Notorious prison escapees, Faigame Vaitoelau and Lauititi Tualima, have been given 10 years each on top of their prison sentences to think carefully about escaping and reoffending.

The sentence was delivered by Justice Vui Clarence Nelson on Monday in the Supreme Court.

The two men had faced similar charges including possession of marijuana, breaking and entering, burglary, theft, being armed with a dangerous weapon, intentional damage, assault and robbery.

In delivering their sentence, Justice Vui  told the men to think carefully about the consequences of their actions and whether they want to spend the rest of their lives in prison.

The men had run away from prison in November last year. They were only caught towards the end of December.

While they were out of prison, the two ransacked homes, assaulted members of the public and committed a number of crimes, mostly robbery.

“If you are tired of living at Tafaigata, then try not to break the law again,” said Justice Vui.

The two men also recently attempted to attack reporters outside the Supreme Court.
