An infant who died as a result of a freaky accident is among four deaths reported to the Police last week.

They are subjects of Police investigations.

This was confirmed by the Police Spokesperson, Su’a Muliaga Tiumalu, yesterday during their weekly press conference.

Two of the cases, he said, are suspected suicide.

But the infant who was hit by a reversing vehicle has left the family in shock.

“The driver went to drop off her kids to her husband’s family at Vailoa but she didn’t see the infant at the back of the car,” he said.

“It wasn't until she felt the car went on a bump that she stopped and saw the back tires had gone over the infant.

“The infant died straight away. The driver has been charged with negligent driving causing death and she is scheduled to appear in Court on the 8th of March.”

The second death involved a male from the village of Letui Savai’i who died from an incident involving a shotgun.

The third death is a 29-year-old mother of Salelologa, who is suspected to have taken her own life last Sunday.

The last death is that of a Kiribati man who died in one of the fishing boats.

“The deceased is a 32 year old male and he works on a fishing boat,” said Su’a.

“The incident occurred last week Saturday. They tried waking him up but he didn’t and it is believed that the deceased died from natural causes.

“There will be no post mortem and his body will be returned to Kiribati for his funeral service.”
