The Marist Sydney Association wants to make a difference.

For the second tine in as many years, Marist Sydney has stepped up to help Saint Joseph’s College in Alafua.

Last Friday, Marist Sydney visited the school to present them 20 computers, a server and library books. The donation is valued at $20,000.

The group was welcomed during an ava ceremony.

The President of the Marist Sydney Association, Hendry Lees, said helping young people of Samoa realise their potential both in education and sports is always their goal.

“This is the second time we have helped out the school; last year we donated the 1st XV Rugby kit as well as Athletics gear,” he said.

“But before we left last year, the Principal asked if we can help provide Computers for the School and that’s why we are here again today.”

As former students, Mr. Lees said it is always their desire to give back.

“In Australia, some young kids maybe in Year three have iPads and gadgets of their own, but it’s totally the opposite here in Samoa, students will only get access to computers when they reach college.

“So for us, this is our way of giving back to the School.”

Principal Susotina Maletino Levao was delighted.

“I want to thank the Lord that we get to meet again with some of the old students of the school,” she said.

“This is not the first time they have assisted the school and we are so grateful.

“I know it’s not that simple working abroad to support families and that is why I want to thank the Lord for providing them the strength and ability to work.

“We are grateful for the ex-students who are willing to support the school in keeping the spirit alive as well as contributing to the school through Sports and academic.”

The Marist Sydney also offers scholarship programme for hard working students living far away from the School.

Members of the Marist Sydney Association were in Apia for the Marist Sports Week.
