The Commissioner of Police, Fuiavaili’ili Egon Keil, and his executive team recently farewell Australian David Bragg.

Mr. Bragg, who is a Chief Petty Officer with the Royal Australian Navy (aviation technician avionics) and was until recently the technical advisor for the Samoa Police Service’s maritime wing, has returned to Australia with his family after a two year posting.

In a post on social media, the Samoa Police Service said Mr. Bragg has been instrumental in initiating some of the maritime wing projects which are set to be achieved this year.

Mr. Bragg was posted to Samoa under the Australian government-funded Pacific Maritime Security Program (PMSP).

In a recent article published in the RAN Navy Daily, he described Samoa’s police maritime wing as “a great group to work with”, saying he had been “made so welcome and learnt so much from them and their culture”.

“The tasks we do here range from assisting with technical support to the procurement of new items to help the Samoa Police Service with their capability and involves meeting so many varied and interesting people,” he said.

Mr. Bragg had requested an out-of-category posting due to the challenges and opportunity it offered.

“As a ‘birdie’, we tend to spend a lot of time at Albatross, so my wife and I thought it would be great to live elsewhere and to give our children a chance to embrace another country and culture,” he added.

“The community we work with and have been involved with is so amazing.”

The Samoa Police Service has announced that Mr. Bragg has been succeeded by Damien Powell as technical advisor.
