The Samoa Best Dancing Competition 2018 winners are ready to take on the Hip Hop International South Pacific Dance competition in New Zealand.

Another local dance group, Blackie Yes, have put their hands up. They came third in last year’s competition. 

Numia Inu Viliamu, team captain for the Army of Kin (S.B.D.C winners) and a judge on the TV3 show “Samoa’s Got Talent”, said he will pick the crew to travel to New Zealand.

“What we’re going to do is I’m going to pick the boys from both crews to battle and the rest can go as an understudy, just to experience and see how the world changes and how things are overseas,” he said. 

According to Mr. Viliamu, both crews are working hand in hand to raise money for their travel, as the process is only one team can enter the competition. 

“The TV1 is helping us provide for funding, like the majority of the funding will be with TV1, but since we’re taking both crews we’re going to have to work hard to provide funds on our own so we’ll do our best,” he added. 

The boys from both crews are starting their fund-raising with the hope of taking everyone on board to experience dancing outside of Samoa.

Taking two crews to the competition in New Zealand is a challenge, but Mr. Viliamu said it’s “normal” to have problems but ultimately they will unite. 

“We do have problems inside our relationship with the boys but it’s just normal and we overcame everything because we unite as brothers and we stay focus on our goal and that is to dance.”

The Army of Kin was last year’s Samoa Best Dancing Competition winners and having that took them to the world stage – giving the boys a global experience. 

Mr. Viliamu said this is their second chance to win and is an opportunity to showcase to the world that Samoa can do it again on that stage. 

He acknowledged their families, friends and supporters for giving them the courage to dance and represent Samoa in a different level.

“Winning wasn’t in our aim, it was just part of the bargain, which was to inspire and to make sure we stay committed and we thank God that we had that as a consolation prize,” he added.
