Laughter filled the Tuanaimato Gym 1 on Wednesday night. The Vailima Fight for Marist not only produced some quality boxing, there was also the good and the ugly.

The corporate fights attracted the most attention with unique names for the different bouts and the creative match-ups.

The seven corporate fights included:

- Battle of the Drag Queens with Tarida from the blue corner beating Sandra Poai.

- Battle of the Golden Oldies. This was a draw between Palea’e Steve Keil and Lemusu Leota.

- Battle of the Gamblers where Allan from the red corner beat Elia Tulifau.

- Battle of David vs. Goliath where Malumalu Mulipola from the Blue corner beat Maka Sapolu.

- Battle of the Minds with Samoa’s Institute of Accountants Norris Mitchell from the red corner beating Samoa Law Society’s Fetu Star Lagaaaia.

- Battle of Sports where a representative of the Rugby union in the blue corner beat Rugby League representative Fiu Ponifasio Vasa.

- Battle of the Big Boys with Rudy Snake Roebeck in the red corner beating Douglas Ngau Chun.

The audience was taken through a rollercoaster of emotions from being scared that the Battle of the Golden Oldies would leave one of the fighters with a heart attack to feeling anxious to see if one of the drag queens would unleash the man in them during their bout. Others were entertained by the street fighting style in some of the bouts while others just laughed at the entertaining fight between the Big Boys.

But all in all the entertainment part of the event was a success.

The most popular match of the night was the Battle of the Big Boys leaving many close to the floor laughing.

Tavui Mike Lemisio said the event was very popular and the feedback augurs well for future events.

Caretaker Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi agreed to this idea in his speech and wants Samoa’s amateur boxing to develop into something great.

“I want Marist to start a boxing club to help our boys bring up the sport of boxing,” he said. “This event was a good idea because people enjoyed watching and this was a chance to raise money.”
