A mother is fighting for her life at the Moto’otua Hospital after her husband allegedly stabbed her on the chest multiple times in public.

What’s worse is that the alleged stabbing happened while their children looked on is sheer horror in broad daylight.

The incident was confirmed by Acting Assistant Police Commissioner, Sala’a Moananu Sala’a, yesterday.

He told the Samoa Observer the stabbing occurred on Monday morning at Fugalei.

“I can confirm that we have started our investigation,” he said.

“The couple is from one of the villages within the Faleata District.”

Sala’a said the woman is in a critical condition at the hospital.

It was not possible to obtain a comment from the hospital about her condition last night.

But Sala’a said the incident has left people who saw it in shock.

“At this stage, the cause of the incident is not known,” he said.

“I can tell you the stabbing occurred at one of the roads at Fugalei going to the back at Tropicana Night Club next to S.M.I Company.

“According to some witnesses who were there, the man was doing all of this in front of his children.”

Bystanders and Good Samaritans rushed to the woman’s aid and took her to the hospital.

Sala’a said it was the hospital who informed them about the stabbing.

“We received a call at around 8.30am requesting for some officers to come to the hospital with regards to a woman who was stabbed there,” he said.

“The Ministry responded and up until now, we are continuing our investigation.

In the meantime, the accused has been arrested and charged.

He is remanded in custody until his Court appearance scheduled for 31 July in the Supreme Court.

The victim and the accused are both 34.
