Police investigate death of toddler

The Ministry of Police is investigating the death of a one-year-old toddler who fell while being given a bath by his father.

The Motootua hospital advised the police of the death last Friday.

“The male baby who was alleged to have died after he fell whilst his father was trying to give him a bath.

“Injuries on the baby is deemed suspicious and police are investigating the matter and charges are yet to file.

In another matter, a hotel's informed the police of the death of foreign national who was found in his room last week Saturday. According to the police the deceased is a 74-year-old male of Great Britain.

“Preliminary investigation indicates that the deceased checked in on the 9th of September and the staff at the hotel noticed his health condition.

“A doctor was called and did a medical check of the deceased on Friday and staffs were asked to monitor his health.

“However, on Saturday the man’s body was found and at the moment the police investigation is still continuing.”

The death of a 44-year-old male of Paia Savaii and Vaitele fou was also reported to the police. It was reported by the family of the deceased last week Sunday.

According to the police, a relative of the deceased went to visit him at home at Vaitele fou and found him sprawled face-down in his outdoor kitchen. The deceased is known to have a medical history.

On the big island of Savai’i, the Foailalo hospital has reported the death of a male Vaisa Tauvalaau, who was pronounced dead on arrival.

“Investigations indicated that the deceased fell from a coconut tree in July this year. He was admitted in Tufutafoe hospital, Sataua hospital and later transferred to the Motootua hospital.

“When he recovered, he was then later transferred to Tuasivi hospital for daily treatments, where his family applied to transfer him back to Foailalo hospital where he was discharged.

“Later the deceased went to collect coconuts from their plantation and a family member found him unconscious under a coconut tree and was then taken to the hospital but died on the way.”

The police said their investigations into this death is continuing.
