S.A.B.A welcomes heroes

Samoa Amateur Boxing Association hosted a welcoming ceremony last Monday evening to welcome their five boxers who competed in the South Pacific Mini Games held in Vanuatu two weeks ago.

 Held at the Poloa Compound at Vaitele, the Samoa Amateur Boxing Association conducted a short prayer followed by an ava ceremony to welcome their heroes.

According to a statement from the Samoa amateur Boxing Association, Team Samoa had five boxers who travelled for the games and all five returned with medals.

Team Samoa Boxing collected two gold and two silver medals and one bronze medal.

Samoa’s gold medals from boxing were from Nu’uuli Mose (60kg) division and Henry Tyrell (81kg) weight class.

Samoa’s Silver medals from Boxing were from Ropati Hall (75kg) division and John Peneueta (91kg) weight class division.

Samoa’s lone Bronze medal from Boxing was from Fa’amanu Aukuso who competed in the (91+kg) weight class division.

New President of the Samoa Boxing Association Papali’i Poloa, with Secretary Faletolu Su’a, acknowledged the performance from the Team Samoa boxing.

Mr. Su’a spoke about challenges before the team left, but he was happy and satisfied of the result.

“The team has had few challenges gearing up for the Mini Games, but the result reflects the work the players and the management are doing.”

The Samoa Association also acknowledged the support of the Team Samoa Boxing Management that accompanied the team.

“We also like to acknowledge the hard work behind the scenes by our Management Poutoa Hall, Lionel Fatu Elika and Pasi Poloa.”

After the formalities, the Team Samoa Boxing received light refreshments hosted by the Samoa Amateur Boxing Association.
