The future for students at Lotofaga Aleipata is bright thanks to a $50,000 project, which was officially opened yesterday.

A building to house the Pre-school and a Catholic Parish Learning Center in the village were the cause for celebrations.

The formalities kicked off with an official blessing led by Father Falani Felise where he highlighted the importance of education, especially early childhood education.

The village acknowledged the help from the New Zealand government through the New Zealand High Commissioner, namely the former High Commissioner, Jackie Frizelle.

According to Reverend Sapati, the project took three months to complete. The grant was used to renovate the school’s old building as well as to buy stationery supplies.

“When we came to start the renovation, we saw that the place was in such a bad shape. It was too old and it was deteriorating but we are grateful to God we have completed it.”

Rev. Sapati extended a heartfelt thank you to New Zealand and all the people who contributed.

Tupuola Oloiali’i Koki Tuala said the project is not just important for Lotofaga, it has nationwide benefits.

“Early childhood education is the foundation for future success,” he said.

“We hope the new building will provide a safe, encouraging and pleasant learning center for this generation and the future generation of families, villages and churches.”

The preschool is run by Rev. Sapati and Maria Moeono Kolio.

Ms. Kolio said she is delighted about the project.

“I’m just so grateful to Jackie Frizelle for approving our request through the grant to renovate this school,” she said.

“A lot of work had to be done and none of this would have been possible without God and all those who were part of the renovations.”

The building however is not just a preschool.

It will also be used as a Village Study Centre.
