A solution to the ticket problem

Dear Editor,

Re: Let’s not waste an opportunity

The cost of putting on these big events like super rugby games, world boxing title defences or rugby tests are prohibitively expensive for small countries like Samoa.

We don’t have big enough stadiums to fill and possibly help to bring down the cost of some tickets.

I can imagine the astronomical costs of bringing in the two super rugby sides to play here.

Perhaps the Samoa rugby union can put its collective hand on its heart and say that this is the best deal it could come up with in terms of ticket prices.

I know I can’t afford the $40 to buy a ticket even though I would have loved to turn up and support the Aussie side.

I know my cheering would be drowned out but that is the fascination of watching a game of rugby in paradise.

I do have a solution though for the ticket price issue.

The Samoa government should provide the same level of support to the rugby union it has promised to the Parker fight. That support to be used only to subsidise the $40 tickets which should bring down significantly the cost.

Who knows, the $40 ticket might even drop to $20 and I would be able to afford to attend.

At $20 there should many more people crammed in at the stadium to watch the game. Wouldn’t that be a great advertisement of Samoa’s great love for the game of rugby.
