The Samoa Chamber of Commerce and the United Nations Development Programme have entered into an agreement through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding that serves to enhance development activities in accelerating and incubating the ideas and businesses of youth entrepreneurs.

The main partnership highlighted by the MOU states that the Chamber of Commerce acts as the key agency to facilitate and guide all the developments for the Youth Co: Lab in Samoa.  This is following a successful Youth Co:Lab Samoa Workshop that the Chamber hosted as a pilot event alongside the main Pacific Regional Conference on ICT early this month.

The Youth Co:Lab is a UNDP initiative developed to be their multi-dimensional and multi-level response that addresses the chal¬lenges young people, including the most marginalized, face today in the Asia and Pacif¬ic region.

It is an avenue that provides Samoa’s network of empowered youth to accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals through leadership, social innovation and entrepreneurship.

Such an initiative allows young Samoans with a passion for social innovation and entrepreneurship to generate and discuss ideas as well as solutions to national, regional, and/or global challenges.

Samoa is the first country in the Pacific region to successfully establish a Youth Co:Lab and the Samoa Chamber of Commerce CEO Lemauga Hobart Vaai reaffirms that the partnership between the Chamber and UNDP through Youth Co:Lab is growing and will continue to grow as they mentor and assist the youth entrepreneurs to be successful entrepreneurs in the future.

Lemauga also highlighted that part of the growth includes the Chamber moving forward with the Youth Co:Lab program by providing capacity building for the rural entrepreneurs, who are also in need of support for their business initiatives.

The Youth Co:Lab is open for anyone that wants to apply and the Samoa Chamber of Commerce encourages young entrepreneurs that are interested in joining the Chamber of Commerce youth programs.
