Life without water is no life at all.

So says Fa’agafa Luafalealo, a resident of Fasito’o uta.

Speaking to the Village Voice, he said they used to fetch water from one of the families in the village.

When this stopped, they decided to get themselves a water tank.

Fa’agafa has 11 people in his family. With that; it makes their situation even more challenging.

“A lot of families here are the same when it comes to water,” he tells the Village Voice.

“Because the government’s water pipes have not been installed in our area, we have to depend on the rain.

“A few families have access to the government’s water, a few have water tanks but the rest are still struggling to get water tanks.

“We have asked the government for help on this, because mind you, some families here don’t have enough money to get water tanks.

“I mean, some of us were lucky enough to receive water tanks from the Mormon’s programme.

“With this kind of situation, when you have a nice house, you ask yourself questions like; what’s the use of having a nice house when you don’t have water?

“Or when you have a water tank but there’s no water in it because you don’t have access to water.

“It’s a difficult life and at the same time; sad in a way because without water, nobody is able to survive for a long time,” said Fa’agafa.

The 57-year-old added that another problem is the bad quality of the roads.

“Our access roads are in a horrible condition. If you drive through Fasito’o Uta you will see numerous pot holes until you reach Aleisa where the road are in great condition.

“All these things, they are all under the government’s authority. This is their duty to its’ people and its their priority to help us with our water problems and the bad roads.”
