A father from the village of Se’ese’e has one wish for Christmas.
He hopes the government can do something to decrease the cost of living for the sake of many impoverished families in Samoa.
Alafua Ah Fook says the government should look at lowering the cost of food prices to help some families.
“In my own opinion, the cost of food is getting too expensive,” he said.
“We can live without many things, but food is what we need the most to make it through the next day.
“Having good food gives us the strength to carry out our daily routines and also keeps us healthy.”
Alafua emphasized the importance of having the right meal to eat every day.
He said there were so many people who were getting sick or obese because they ate a lot of unhealthy food.
“Nowadays the hospitals are packed, most people who are there are mainly sick because of the food they consume. Shops should start selling not just any product, must be good quality,” he told Village Voice team yesterday.
He says sardines are healthy but they are becoming too expensive.
As a breadwinner for his family, Alafua is grateful to the Chinese shops for making food products affordable.
“I am the only one who works within our family and my wife stays home to look after our child. It is uplifting to come across cheap stores like the Chinese shops, they are such a big help to our family.”
The cost of living nowadays is not getting any easier, especially for an 18-year-old parent, even though he works as a plumber, there is still so many other things that he needs to focus on such as paying for the bills in the house.
