Something doesn’t make sense

Dear Editor,

Re: Justice dismisses lawsuit over name

Interesting ruling, I was quite convinced that the ruling was fair, as this posting couldn’t possibly post the whole proceedings of the case, but after delivering the verdict, then “Justice Tafaoimalo urged the parties to make peace as they are after all a family.” and supported by both defense lawyers.

So how are they family if they are not both Stowers, or not connected by blood, marriage or adoption?

How was this ruling reached if they are family?

“According to the ruling, the families of the plaintiffs and the first defendant are neighbours in Lano, Savaii. They all live on Stowers land. Around the 1990s and into the early 2000s, the plaintiffs started using the surname “Stowers”.”

“The first defendant and her family, who are ‘Stowers’, object to this because they say they have no connection by blood, marriage or adoption to the plaintiffs. The plaintiffs maintain that they are ‘Stowers’.”

“During her verbal ruling, Justice Tafaoimalo urged the parties to “make peace” as they are after all a family.”

“The same sentiments were echoed by Su’a and Leavai who represented the defendants in the case.” Can you see where I’m coming from?
