The Tau Warriors won against Tau Maroons in the final for the open men’s division at the Tau Tag’s sixth one-day tournament on Saturday.

Hosted by the Samoa Tag Incorporated at the Saint Joseph’s College fields, there were two divisions - open men’s and open mix.

In the open men’s division there were eight teams - Tau Maroons, Tau Samarai Samatau, Tau Shakers, Tau Originals, Tau Letava Bulldogs, Tau Warriors A, Tau Warriors B, Tau Tag City.

As for the open mix division there were five teams - Tau Avengers, Tau Maroons, Tau Warriors, Tau Samarai Samatau, and Tau Shakers.

The game was a follow-up from the Teuila Tag Festival, which was held in September.

President of the Samoa Tag Incorporated, Faaofonuu Leota said the tournament serves to help grow the sport of tag in Samoa.

“The sport is unique due to it being a non-contact sport and there is no age limit, so it’s for all ages, anyone can play, any shapes and sizes,” Faaofonuu said.

“We are taking tag to Savaii this week for the Samoa Tag and Netball Open Day held in Iva Youth Field.

“Our aim is to also grow the sport in Savaii and it is true what they say, what’s good for Upolu is also good for the big island of Savaii,” Faaofonuu stated.

He said they promote tag within schools and villages, and he acknowledges the help from sponsors like Taula Beverages.
