Tackling the increasing transnational crime around the Pacific region was at the forefront of a three-day workshop hosted this week by the Ministry of Police.

Held at the Sheraton Aggie Grey Hotel this week, the Transnational Crime Workshop was attended by Samoa’s security and border control personnel including Police officers, Customs Agents, Immigration Officers, Prisons and Correction Officers and representatives from the Attorney General’s office.

Leading the workshop was Commissioner of Police, Fuiavailili Egon Keil, the Australian High Commissioner to Samoa, H.E. Sue Langford and Government Officials from several Government Ministries.

Aside from local representatives, there are also representatives from Transnational Crime Units (T.C.U.) around the region including, Tuvalu, American Samoa, Fiji, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea and Cook Islands.

“The focus of the workshop is to share ideas and expertise on how to address the increase in transnational crime issues around the region as well as identifying areas where improvement is required including the collaboration and coordination from these agencies,” a press statement issued by the Ministry of Police said.

The workshop, supported by the Samoa Australia Police Partnership, concluded yesterday.
