With new developments, come obstacles.

And who are the ones affected the most?

Aeti Tulafono says it is the people, vulnerable people who have to struggle with the cost of living every day.

“Life is really hard indeed for me because I support my parents and my own small family,” the 26-year-old from the village of Faleasi’u-uta told the Village Voice team.

“I am married already and have two kids of my own and I am working hard to support them and my parents.

“Only one person in my family works and I am the one supporting our family using our plantation.

Mr. Tulafono said he used to work before.

“I stopped going to work because there was no one here at home to cook and look after my family.

“So that is why I am here now going to the plantation to get food for my family and that is my role.”

Mr. Tulafono added life was not only developing at a fast rate, but also the price of things at supermarkets was increasing drastically.

“The life we have here in Samoa is changing so fast because of the fast improvements and development.

“And thus, the price of goods have also increased and becoming so unaffordable to almost everyone nowadays.”

Mr. Tulafono also urges the youths to look for opportunities and give back to their families.

“Well life is hard indeed for us all and I am urging the youths to start looking for ways to support their families.

“You guys are closing in, having your own small family like me, but you already have something to start with.”

Mr. Tulafono is searching for another job.

“We are struggling because we have only one person in our family who works, so that is why I am looking for a job now.”
