Faleata College is celebrating a proud milestone this week.

It follows the school’s sweet victory in TV3’s Year 10 Spelling Bee competition. The team of girls from Faleata overcame their much fancier opponents, Pesega College, in the final.

Other schools involved in the two-week competition were Samoa College and Avele College.

Faleata College Principal, Michael Grey, said the victory is a positive step for the school not normally known for academic excellence.

“The pool of talents within this school is massive,” he said, adding that the students prepared extremely hard for the competition.

“The team went with two motives. They wanted to use the completion to learn and go up against the pressure of tops school they competed against. They also wanted to have the true sportsmanship within their participation with the beauty of the game."

“Faleata College never goes to any competition with a supremacy mentality. Faleata College goes to compete, learn the beauty of competing, as well as learn from the supremacy schools.”

The win at the Spelling Bee continued Faleata’s good run this year.

Recently, two female students won the interschool Diabetes Awareness cooking Competition.

The Competition was hosted by the National University of Samoa in partnership with the Ministry of Health as well as the Ministry of Education Sports and Culture.

Faleata College cooked the healthiest and the most delicious meal that day.

These two achievements of the school so far have boost the students of Faleata College to strive for the best they can, and to be able to compete with the tops schools within Samoa.
