Fire rips through home at Nofoali’i

A family at Nofoali’i has lost thousands of tala worth of valuables after a fire shredded their home yesterday afternoon.

Pictures immediately shared on social media shows the fire ripping through the house as bystanders look on helplessly.

The Samoa Observer contacted the Fire Emergency Services in Apia.

An official who spoke to on the condition of anonymity said the house is located next to the E.F.K.S. Church at Nofoali’i.

“The guys from Faleata were the ones who responded to the call,” said the official.

“At the moment the Fire Safety staff are still at the family’s home investigating the incident.

“According to reports from the guys that were there, when the fire occurred there were three young children inside the house.

“However, there were adults that were at another house at the back it is believed that these young children were playing with a matches which might have caused the fire. Thankfully the young children are all okay as well as the whole family.

“The guys arrived at the scene but the fire had already cut through most of the house and they did their best but it was too late. Everything was destroyed and investigations are still continuing in regards to the incident.”

It was not possible to get a comment from the family.
