Just Play reaches the edge of Savaii

Christmas came early for kids in Savaii as the Football Federation Samoa hosted a festival at the Sataua Primary School last week.  

The festival was held  at the field to celebrate the Universal Children’s Day as well as the conclusion of their 16 week, Just Play program.  

 (F.F.S)  has been hosting the Just Play Program concluded last week for the Itu o Asau district in Savai’i.

Just Play is a program that promotes healthy living, equal opportunity, respecting others, inclusive of those with special needs, and Just Play have contributed to the children’s   lifestyles ever since. Just Play and Football Federation Samoa believes that it is important to reach the edge of Savaii.

For the past 16 weeks, the Just Play program was introduced in schools at the Itu o Asau District to promote physical activity for children between the ages of 6 to 12 years and at the same time to enable them to enjoy and learn more about football.

 Just Play Development Officer Talitiga Tumanuvao stated that Friday’s festival is the fourth event for the Itu o Asau Primary schools since the implementation of Just Play.

Tumanauvao also added the main objective of Just Play Programme is to give the children an equal opportunity in sports not only for Upolu and the urban areas but for Savaii as well.

Since the establishment of Just Play in the Itu o Asau District, Talitiga Tumanuvao explained the positive feedback from the schools involved on students and the changing of their perception. 

Just Play is sponsored by the Australian Government, the New Zealand Government, the Australian Football Federation, U.N.I.C.E.F. Pacific and the U.E.F.A.Foundation. 

Participating Schools are Asau Primary School, Auala Primary School, Papa/Sataua Primary School, Vaisala Primary School, Neiafu Primary School, Falelima Primary School, Tufutafoe Primary School, and Falealupo Primary School.
