The village of Eva was a place of cultural celebration on Friday morning.

There, Nana Naea Tito was bestowed the Sa’o tama’ita’i Title, Taulagia, by her family.

The 37-year old daughter of High Chief Naea Liliu and Nana was grateful for the honour.

“This is all about everyone coming together to unite as one family in one heart, peace and in harmony,” she said.

“This is what we were taught when we were young with my other siblings – to know our culture and where we belong.”

“Even though we’re raised in Australia all our lives, that didn’t stop us from learning and knowing how to walk, talk and sit, I mean and how to talk in Samoan wherever we go, except school.”

“The same thing that we are applying to our children, we teach them what our parents taught us when we were young.”

“Now I’m in another level to serve our aiga potopoto and it’s all about working together, knowing where we are from our roots is what we are in Samoa.”

“I am very glad to become a part of this family, Naea.”

She believes it’s another level of service to her village.

“It’s about knowing your identity, it’s not something that you just sit around and expect others to work and serve you.”

“That’s a no; I am ready to serve together with other members of our family to the best of our abilities.”

“I’m praying that this calling will bless others in our family in years to come.”

Taulagia is married to Seu Ross Tito and they reside in Australia.
