Digicel has announced that it has dropped rates for outbound calls to Fiji to allow people to communicate more with their family and friends.

This is in a direct response to T.C. Winston, which hit the Fiji Islands late on Saturday.

Digicel Pacific’s Chief Executive Officer, Michael Murphy said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with all the communities affected in Fiji and the wider Digicel family stands ready to assist where possible.

We had been tracking the progress of Cyclone Winston and are now activating the communications recovery plan that was in place. This includes working with our Pacific neighbor’s, and our valued partners to provide heavily discounted calling to and from Fiji”.

For those calling from Samoa to Fiji will pay a special rate of only 10sene a minute from now until midnight Sunday of 28th February 2016. For our Digicel family within Fiji, they can call sixteen overseas destinations from now until Sunday for only FJ$0.10 per minute.

Participating countries include: Australia, New Zealand, U.S.A, Canada, China, India, U.K, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu and Nauru.

Communication services are of utmost importance as families and loved ones need to stay connected with those across the islands and abroad. With that, Digicel Fiji is working around the clock to restore connectivity. Additionally, Digicel provided all customers across the nation with $5 free credit to call their family and friends all over Fiji and in core overseas territories.

“We understand the impact of natural disasters on island nations and also the importance of planning so that we can react quickly to help get recovery efforts underway. The Digicel Pacific family is standing #TogetherForFiji and doing all it can to help assist with recovery efforts”.
