A time when money talks

Money talks these days.

So says Tapeni Togaga’e who shared his opinion on the hardships faced by many families in Samoa today.

The 41-year-old from Falelauniu says life in Samoa is about hustling to find money.

Mr. Togaga’e believes the reality of Samoa is if you don’t work, then you can expect to suffer.

“We all know that the life we live in today is really tough and expensive somehow because prices are all going up,” the father of five said.

“People nowadays are working hard to provide and find money to support their families.

“Everything now in Samoa is all about money and you are leading your family to poverty when you don’t work.” Mr. Togaga’e was on his way to his work at Tapatapaō when the Village Voice team met him yesterday morning.

He mentioned that he tries his best to support his family.

“To me, I think the reality of the Samoan lifestyle nowadays is that if you don’t work, you will suffer,” Mr. Togaga’e.

“I am the only person who works to support our family, my work is not office work and I work at one of my relative’s plantation.

“That is basically where I make money and sometimes I just support my family with crops from the plantation I work on.

“I don’t receive that much salary from my work, but it’s the best that I can earn to support them because my children are young.”

Mr. Togaga’e also mentioned that no matter how hard life is, he works hard for his children’s education.

“Three of my children are in school and I am working really hard to put them to school.

“No matter how hard life is and expensive cost of living is, I will work hard so that my children can go to school.”

Mr. Togaga’e also added our Government should consider creating more job opportunities for people to support their families.

“Life is hard and we all know it, we also have plantations to work on, but still that’s not enough.

“I just want our Government to know that we need more job opportunities for everyone in order to tackle the hardships we face today.”
