Having a sustainable, well paying job is the way to go these days.

Savelio Vasega from Leauvaa says the financial demands of today require a person to work a stable job that earns enough to help cater for family, church and village obligations. 

The 45-year-old is unemployed and has three children. 

He says most people, such as him, work the land for their daily sustenance. 

“Even though there’s the land for us to grow crops and sell, it is still not enough to cater for everything today, however a stable job would make a difference.”

Mr. Vasega says his wife is also unemployed and he is looking for a job to help put his children to school.

“I have three children and all of them are in school. The two older ones are in college, while the youngest is in primary school.

“I really want a job; any job will be good as long as I could earn some money so I could support my family,” he added.

He shared with the Village Voice team that his family also relies on the sea.

“We rely on the sea for a living and some side jobs which I get to do is how I make money to help my family.

“Every time I fish I usually make $50 a day or more. It only reaches a $100 or more during festive seasons or the big conference at the Malua Theological College.”

Mr. Vasega says the current weather change is a challenge to his efforts of trying to catch more fish to sell.
