The village of Si’ufaga Savai’i welcomed 53 new holders of the Unasa chiefly title during a colorful and elaborate ceremony on Saturday yesterday.

The new titleholders including the Minister of Works, Transport and Infrastructure, Papalii Niko Lee Hang, were blessed during a traditional ceremony attended by families and villagers.

The day was made extra special by the presence of Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi and some members of the diplomatic corp who surprised the family by turning up to be part of the special occasion.

“I see that there a lot of members of the family are being blessed today by receiving the title,” Prime Minister Tuilaepa said.

“It’s good because it is their time to take the role of a leader in their family, so they would know of the work that the elders of the family are facing.

“It’s not easy but the more hands to be put into something the easier the work is so congratulations to all of you.”

The new titleholders came from afar including the United States of America, Australia, New Zealand.

Prior to the traditional formalities, the titleholders were blessed on Friday evening by Rev. Fiafia Toleafoa of the Congregation Christian Church at Si’ufaga.
