Sick children at the Moto’otua Hospital’s paediatric ward were in high spirits when Lupesoliai Joseph Parker and Digicel staff visited them on Christmas eve with presents.

The Children were filled with happiness when Lupesoliai and Santa greeted and presented each of them with wrapped Christmas gifts.

Digicel head of consumer and acting chief executive officer, Mark Witthuan, said some of their office staff offered to visit the hospital to spread the Christmas spirit.

“We are getting our staff together where we can actually look at celebrating the gift of family, and  to those less privileged than us, to be able to spend our time and efforts and support to the community by physically being here at the areas where it’s needed,” he said.

Witthuan told Samoa Observer that community initiative work is the cornerstone of Digicel.

“Across all the markets we operate in, that’s part of our strategy on a yearly basis; the community we serve we need to give back and this is probably the best visual way.

“It’s been a good year for us in Samoa and what we’ve done to our consumers and communities, this all comes together in a unique way in which we can visualize and show off  our support and how we ought to operate in Samoa,” he said.

He also stated they would love to show what they do isn’t only telecommunications  but also serve the people.

“One thing about our chairman [Denis O’Brien] who visited us in November, he made sure that our Christmas activities are being reported back to the board because it’s something close to his heart.”

The visit was greatly appreciated by not only the sick children but also their parents, nurses, doctors and passersby who got to meet and get a photo with the champion boxer.

A total of 50 presents were gifted to the children, which were partly donated by Digicel staff and SSAB.
