The Pacific media has been assured that they will be allowed to cover all the meetings of the 49th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders meeting next year in Nauru.

The promise comes from the President of Nauru, Baron Waqa, who is in Apia this week.

The President acknowledged the important role of journalists and the impact of their work in educating the public in terms of global warming.

“Let me assure you that we are working with the Forum to make sure you all get there,” he said.

The President was speaking during a press conference at the end of the Small Islands States (S.I.S.) meeting on Monday.

The S.I.S. and the Polynesian Leaders Group meetings were held in the lead up to the main Pacific Island Forum Leaders meeting yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Both meetings were closed to the media, something President Waqa assured would not happen next year in Nauru.

Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, who is Chairman of the P.I.F’s declined to comment on the claim.

“I will not say anything but you can report what he had to say,” said Tuilaepa.
