Aumua Amata has officially declared that she is seeking a second term as American Samoa’s delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives.

In a statement announcing her candidacy, she said she has been a strong advocate on behalf of the people of American Samoa.

“One of my most important mantras is that the people of American Samoa should make their own decisions on their life and their future.

“I have used this mantra with my colleagues in Congress and they are listening and understand my passion.”

She said American Samoa now has very strong contacts in Congress and she will continue to make them work for the territory if she’s returned to Washington, D.C.

Congresswoman Amata said one of the pressing issues for American Samoa is access for U.S. fishing boats that supply our canneries.

Not only has she introduced a fisheries bill to protect the territory’s canneries but she’s urging the federal government to look out for American Samoa’s interests.
