Looking for work

Nothing can be done unless you work.

For Opeta Filipo, he has many plans for the future, which is why he needs to find a job.

Aged 38, from the village of Leauva’a he said that having no proper job makes life harder.

“In our family none of us have a job and to be honest, we just try to make ends meet every day.”

“With four kids at school, we have no other choice but to look for jobs to help out.”

“We have a taxi where we can earn money, but this is not enough because most of the money we get goes back to the taxi for petrol.”

“Sometimes we get money from it, sometimes we don’t and sometimes well there’s just nothing at all.”

“Our family is developing and I want to work to make life easier and to prioritise the lives of our children.”

“But getting a job is not an easy thing to do anymore.”

Opeta says that they have many of the things they need but they lack money.

“We have access to water and electricity but the problem is, we can’t be sure our lives will continue on being able to meet our basic needs if I don’t have a job.”

“As you can see, our taxi is at home being fixed and I’m trying to clear our land to grow some taros for a living in the meantime.”

“This happens when we don’t have anything else to depend on aside from the taxi.”

“I need to make things happen for my own family. I don’t want us to depend on anyone else.”

“This is why I’ve been looking for jobs because our taxi is not going to be on the road every day.”

“But I don’t know where else to earn money if we don’t continue on with the taxi.”

“I’m a hard-working person and I’m a skilled carpenter. I can also cook, I can do any kind of cooking and I’m a reliable person.”

If anyone wants to help or knows of someone who can help Opeta by offering him work, give him a call on 7257892.'
