Samoa’s diversity wins it for Nick

Living a life of luxury, Nick Swain, aged 37, has been fortunate enough to have stayed at Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s Hotel for the last three months.

He took the time to share his in depth experience of the Island.

“It’s been really cool, I’ve been to a few of the other pacific islands but I like the diversity of the people and their culture here,” he said.

Nick works in TV production.

His exciting career has seen him travel the world, but he has enjoyed his time here in particular.

“I work with the local people so it’s great to go into the villages and experience their life style. You get a good feeling of the difference between living in the village and in the city.”

Nick has loved learning about the local culture, and three months in, is definitely getting a feel for Samoan life. Although working hard, he has little time to explore.

“I only get one day off a week, so I try to pack lots in and tick off all the big stuff.”

He has been shocked at the lack of tourism here on the island.

“But it’s great because there isn’t lots of tourists: there’s so many great places to find and there is usually nobody else there, so it makes it really special. That’s what makes it different from Fiji.” Samoa has many hidden and secluded gems awaiting discovery.

For Nick, one gem still to uncover is Lalomanu.

“It’s the one corner of the island I haven’t been to yet.”

Before his departure in a few weeks’ time, Nick will be sure to take a trip down to the South and visit Samoa’s favourite beach.

Constantly travelling for work, Nick is an excellent connoisseur of resorts, and has been impressed with the Sheraton.

“This is a really nice hotel, especially when you have a pool and it is 30 degrees every day. I came last year when the hotel had just opened, but this time you can see they’ve had lots of training and everybody knows what they are doing. I recognise a few people here from last year and they are really friendly.”

An avid golf player, Nick will be enthused to hear of the Invest Samoa International Championship currently being held on the island. He has visited the course at Faleata and said he “had a great day out”, adding that “it’s a beautiful and really warm place.”
